Position Summary: The Center for Apprenticeship and Adult Training is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Medical Billing and Coding (MB&C) Instructor to teach adult learners in a part-time evening role. This position is responsible for delivering curriculum-based instruction to prepare students for successful entry into the medical billing and coding field. Key Responsibilities: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in Medical Billing and Coding, following established course curriculum and learning objectives. Prepare students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Certification exam. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student success. Monitor student progress and provide feedback, tutoring, and support as needed. Maintain accurate records of attendance and academic performance. Stay current with industry trends, coding updates (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and certification requirements. Minimum Qualifications: Option 1: 3+ years of experience as a Medical Billing and Coding Instructor, OR Option 2: 5+ years of experience as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist in a hospital, clinic, or physician's office. Possess a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certification (e.g., from NHA, AAPC, AHIMA), OR be able to obtain certification within the first six (6) months of employment. Strong communication and instructional skills. Commitment to student learning and professional development. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching adult learners in a classroom or hybrid setting. Familiarity with online learning management systems (LMS). Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required. Classes meet in-person three evenings per week (Monday-Wednesday), providing a consistent schedule ideal for professionals looking to share their expertise and contribute to workforce development in the Hampton Roads region. The course runs approximately 16 weeks and consists of 128 total instructional hours. This certification also serves as a stackable credential when combined with our Medical Administrative Assistant, Phlebotomy, or EKG Technician classes-providing students a pathway to build a more comprehensive skillset for employment in healthcare administration and clinical settings.
